New Images of Education

The United States has for the first time reached a high school graduation rate of 80%.  Our next challenge will become how to get them to succeed in a post-secondary environment.  A number of cities (including Philadelphia and NYC) are experimenting with new types of school design where students draw on the assets of the whole community and its broad base of leadership – an ecosystem for learning.  With that type of design, learners graduate with competencies and opportunities that are relevant and necessary.  They can be college or workforce ready.  This article in Getting Smart by Michele Cahill focuses on how Design principles enable this type of environment.  ” Design thinking gives real roles to partner organizations in a learning ecosystem. About Tech-Enabled Educator Network

The Tech-Enabled Educator Network grew out of a desire to showcase the work of innovative educators to preservice students and new teachers. While committed to professional excellence, most educators are humble by nature and reluctant to promote their work, even when it is exemplary. This modesty makes it challenging for new educators to learn from these educational innovators and greatly hampers the diffusion of innovation. Thus, the Tech-Enabled Educator Network seeks to take on the role of promoting the work of tech-enabled educators by featuring their exemplary blog posts, videos, podcasts, and conference presentations.
