ESL ROBOT App: Helping Students Practice Writing Skills and Potentially Create Comedy Skits!
I was recently testing a very interesting App called ESL Robot (a.k.a. Tutor Mike). The App is very simple. It is like texting someone. You type a question about something and Tutor Mike answers it right away. Well, at least, he tries to answer the best way he can, what can make the dialogue hilarious at times. There’s no limit to the number of lines in the dialogue. As long as you keep sending comments or questions, Tutor Mike will respond to you.
1) The app may do the correction of some spelling errors automatically, which can help model proper writing. But, it does not spot all capitalization and punctuation errors. So, after completing their dialogues, the students could screen capture them, and edit their work.
2) ELL students could use the App to practice using vocabulary or language structures learned in class.
