Enhancing Learning with Multimedia

While some may argue its legitimacy, most agree with the idea that there are many different types of learners. From Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences to more simplistic theories that argue there are about three types of learners, many agree that in order to learn ‘the best’ way possible, some students need to hear, see, feel, or interact with a certain idea. 

In the way I see it, I tend to ask the question, “Why would you not?” As a 21st century teacher, you have all sorts of multimedia technologies at your fingertips, so why wouldn’t you add images, audio, and video to enhance your lessons? Granted, there are plenty of multimedia resources out there that are poorly made and not educationally appropriate, but if you, as the teacher, preview and handpick the multimedia you’ll be using, I see that it could only enhance a lesson.

While committed to professional excellence, most educators are humble by nature and reluctant to promote their work, even when it is exemplary.
