Examinations and tests grading system should be completely restructured. Presently, a lot of undue attention is placed on getting good grades only as opposed to the ability to actually retain practical knowledge.
When I was an undergraduate in the Faculty of Education of The Lagos State University in Nigeria, I was taught that “teaching and learning is not complete until there is a change in behavior.” This should mean that a student who was taught a topic such as “cleanliness of the body” for example, and goes on to pass all fifty questions in the examination but always appears dirty and untidy in appearance should be considered more as a failure than a success.
Why do we score students for the ability to reproduce facts only and not, for example: body cleanliness, neat handwriting, books well kept, keeping quiet and paying attention in class, attempting and submitting class works, assignments…
